Teeth Whitening
Over time, our tooth enamel starts to discolour. Unfortunately, this is a natural part of the ageing process, which will happen to all of us. Teeth can be stained in a number of ways. Often it’s simply down to genetics and our general lifestyle and diet. Our regular consumption of dark food and drinks (tea, coffee, coke, etc) contributes significantly, as do habits such as smoking, which can make the teeth look yellow. Sometimes, our teeth can change colour as the result of damage or previous dental work (root canal treatment) while certain long-term medications can also darken the teeth over time.
As stains appear on the inside and outside of the teeth, no matter how well you brush, or how often you visit the hygienist, it’s impossible to stop this gradual change.
Nowadays Teeth Whitening is one of the most effective ways to remove this staining, leaving you with a fresher, brighter looking smile.
With teeth whitening, available at Krystal Dental, a bright and confident smile is now more readily available and affordable for everyone. Your dentist can restore the natural whiteness of your teeth easily, comfortably and with the utmost convenience. Treatment is pain-free and very often, results can be seen from the first application.
What sort of whitening treatments are available?
Everyone is different and we always advise for a dental examination before starting the whitening treatment.
Bear in mind that manufactured teeth or restorations such as crowns, fillings, dentures and bridges can’t be whitened. They can, however, be replaced (at an additional cost) to match the shade of your new teeth.
Two ways are available to whiten your teeth: the ‘ in chair whitening’ at our clinic and the ‘ home whitening’ at home.
In chair whitening
For instantly whiter teeth, you will need to book a single appointment for teeth whitening treatment at Krystal Dental.
The treatment consists of a specially-formulated gel which is applied directly to the surface of your teeth. Your dentist will then hold a special light up to your teeth that will activate the ingredients in the gel. The process is repeated to maximise the effect, all during the course of the same appointment. The gel will get rid of stains and return your teeth to their natural, white colour.
To maintain your new, white smile, your dentist will give you advice on how to properly clean your teeth as well as making suggestions about how small changes to your diet can help.
The whole treatment lasts only 75-90 minutes.

I have sensitive teeth, can I still whiten?
Sensitive teeth can be a common side effect of Teeth Whitening. To help prevent this, all Philips Zoom whitening gels contain special ingredients which are proven to help reduce sensitivity, protect enamel and improve the lustre of teeth for a brighter smile.
Is teeth whitening safe?
Yes. Clinical studies have shown that whitening your teeth under the supervision of a dental professional is safe for teeth and gums. Always ensure that products are EU compliant.
Are there any side effects of whitening?
The most common side effect is tooth and gum sensitivity. Your dentist will be able to advise you on whether you are a good candidate for Whitening and they can also ensure that you are using the right concentration of Whitening formula. Philips Zoom whitening products contain 2 mild desensitising agents, potassium nitrate and Amorphous Calcium Phosphate (ACP), which are proven to reduce sensitivity.
How long will my whitening results last?
Whitening treatments help to reduce existing stains, but through consumption of coffee, soft drinks, or through natural ageing, your teeth may become discoloured again. Maintenance Whitening at home can help combat recurring discolouration.
