Fluoride

Fluoride is a natural mineral that can help patients develop stronger, more durable tooth enamel that’s less susceptible to decay over time. It accomplishes this by being present in several food items, supplements, and even most municipal water supplies that young patients ingest. Once the adult teeth have successfully erupted from the gums, your dentist may recommend the application of topical fluoride for additional boosts of health, both at home through the use of certain oral hygiene products (like toothpastes and mouthwashes) and here at Krystal Dental.

Who does benefit from Fluoride application?

These professional applications can be very valuable to children who are still practicing their oral hygiene skills and adults who are highly susceptible to decay.

What kind of Fluoride will be applied on my teeth?

Fluoride Application by gels/foam is the form of topical fluoride therapy we usually adopt at Krystal Dental.

How long does it work on my teeth?

It is not a permanent treatment but due to its soldering properties, Fluoride is able to stay in contact with the tooth surface for several hours. It may be applied to the enamel, dentin or cementum of the tooth and can be used to help prevent decay, to treat dentin hypersensitivity and to re-mineralise the tooth surface.

The Fluoride Gel can be in different flavours which is an advantage particularly for children and its application is quick and easy.

Does Fluoride cause any damage to my teeth?

According to scientific studies, professionally fluoride application does not appear to be a risk factor for dental fluorosis, even in children under the age of six. This is because of the reduction in the amount of fluoride, which may also be swallowed during the fluoride treatment.
